 Situated
by the gates of the Beguinage its a picturesque park which used
to be a dock for the barges operating between Bruges and Ghent.
Now its a pretty lake complete with lawns swans and meandering
lakeside walks. A great spot to relax and enjoy some calm within
the city. At Minnewater and
its lovely park one can already enjoy a panoramic view over
the town. Due of the idyllic surroundings it has been named
'the lake of Love' probably from the Dutch word 'Minne' meaning
'love'.
One of the symbols of Bruges
is the swan and there are always plenty of them on the 'Minnewater'.
The swan symbol and the name 'lake of love' give more than
a clue to the special part this place plays in the lives of
the local folk of Bruges.
